PC4713-W-E-TY/3W three-phase three-wire (3P3W) wiring

PC4713-W-E-TY/3W only

Three phases without a neutral, used in older industrial distribution. Only the /3W model supports this system, and only two CTs are needed: the middle phase carries no clamp.

Isolate the supply before touching any conductor. Wire colours in the clip are the demo panel's, not a requirement.

Step by step

  1. 1 Isolate the supply and prove the conductors dead.
  2. 2 Clip CT1 on L1 and CT3 on L3; the middle phase gets no CT.
  3. 3 Land L1 on A, L2 on B and L3 on C. There is no neutral in this system.
  4. 4 Land CT1 on IA+ / IA- and CT3 on IC+ / IC-.
  5. 5 Restore power and check all three voltages plus both current channels.

Terminal reference

Power block N/C/B/A
A = L1, B = L2, C = L3. N unused in a three-wire system.
CT block IA+ IA-
Secondary of CT1, the clamp on L1.
CT block IC+ IC-
Secondary of CT3, the clamp on L3. IB stays unused.

Before you start

  • This system is only supported on the PC4713-W-E-TY/3W. The PC4713-W, -485, -TY and -E-TY models list three-phase three-wire as not supported.
  • Never land a neutral on N in a three-wire system: there is none to land.

Common mistakes

  • Buying the Open API models for a three-wire panel: they cannot report it.
  • Fitting a third CT on the middle phase: the channel is not used and the reading is misleading.

Datasheets and quick start guides for every OWON model are in the documentation library. Not sure which model fits the supply? Send us the service details — we answer within one business day.
