PC4711-W-485 single-phase meter with RS485, grey housing and two open-type CT clamps on white leads

PC4711-W-485

Single-Phase WiFi + RS485 Open API Smart Energy Meter

UniClip Open with a wired bus: single-phase meter on WiFi for HTTP, MQTT and Modbus TCP, plus RS485 Modbus RTU at a maximum 50 ms response.

Smart Meters MQTT WiFi rs485 MQTT Open Local API

Overview

PC4711-W-485 is the single-phase Open API meter with a wire as well as a radio: RS485 carrying Modbus RTU for systems that poll a serial bus, and Wi-Fi carrying HTTP, MQTT and Modbus TCP for everything else. Both live on the same device.

The practical case is a site with a cable already at the board, or one where a control loop cannot depend on a wireless link: Modbus RTU answers in a maximum of 50 ms, on top of the 50 ms data refresh. No app and no cloud account - the meter is configured from a browser page served over its own hotspot.

PC4711-W-485 Platform and Integration Notes

Minute-level offline storage. Data is buffered locally and re-reported after a reconnect, so a dropout does not become a hole in the dataset.

Full remote management, over the wire or over the air. OTA firmware, CT configuration, data erase and remote reboot.

Up to two open-type CTs, 80 A to 300 A, clipped on without rewiring, with bidirectional metering on the single-phase circuit.

Home Assistant integration on the platform side, alongside the wired Modbus loop.

PC4711-W-485 Limits and What to Specify Instead

  • Three-phase supplies — the Open API equivalents are the PC4713-W and PC4713-W-485; a 3P3W or delta service needs the Tuya-series PC4713-W-E-TY/3W.
  • Relay output — no model in the Open API range carries a dry contact; load switching is a Tuya-series option.
  • The Tuya App and Tuya Cloud history — this is the self-hosted build.
  • A third metering channel — not offered in the Open API single-phase range.

Key Benefits

Two Independent Integration Paths

RS485 Modbus RTU for the control side and Wi-Fi HTTP / MQTT / Modbus TCP for the platform, both on the same meter.

Modbus RTU in 50 ms Maximum

A wired loop for PLC, BMS and SCADA that cannot wait for a wireless round trip.

Your Data Stays Yours

No third-party cloud in the path and no app to install; the meter is configured from a browser page.

Four-Quadrant With Demand

RMS / PQS measurement with current and maximum demand, plus minute-level offline storage and automatic re-report.

Ideal For

Common deployment scenarios where Single-Phase WiFi + RS485 Open API Smart Energy Meter delivers the most value.

PLC, BMS and SCADA Loops

RS485 Modbus RTU answers in a maximum of 50 ms while Wi-Fi carries the platform feed.

Sites with a Cable Already Present

Where the bus exists, the meter uses it rather than depending on wireless.

Local Control with Remote Reporting

A wired loop for control and Wi-Fi for reporting, both on one meter.

Solar, Storage and EV Charging

Four-quadrant measurement with demand, reported to a platform the operator controls.

Industrial Single-Phase Submetering

Per-machine or per-circuit metering on a wired bus.

Distributor and OEM Programmes

Neutral standard units, with branding and packaging available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the RS485 port add over the PC4711-W?
A wired path into systems that expect a serial bus. Modbus RTU over RS485 answers in a maximum of 50 ms, which is what PLC, BMS and SCADA loops are built around. The Wi-Fi path with HTTP, MQTT and Modbus TCP stays available on the same meter.
Do the wired and wireless paths conflict?
No. RS485 can serve the local control or BMS side while Wi-Fi carries HTTP, MQTT or Modbus TCP to a platform — two independent routes from one meter.
Is a gateway or cloud account required?
Neither. The meter reports to your own server, and configuration is done from a browser page served over the device hotspot.
What CT options are available?
Two open-type CT clamps, 80 A to 300 A, with inner diameters of 10, 16, 20 or 24 mm.
Should I choose this or a three-phase model?
This model meters a single-phase circuit. A three-phase service needs a PC4713 model; the PC4713-W-485 is the three-phase equivalent with the same protocol set.
